How to reach

  • By Air: Nearest airport is Belgaum from where buses and trains to Kolhapur are available.

  • By Train: Kolhapur is connected to Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune by rail. Once there, city centre can then be reached from the station by bus, cab or auto-rickshaw ride.

  • By Road: Kolhapur is about 450 kms to the south of Mumbai. From Mumbai or Bengaluru, it is an 8-10 hour journey, 5 from Pune. Direct buses to Kolhapur, both private and state transport, are available.

Places to visit

  • Taleem: Motibag, Shahapuri, Gangavesh and New Motibag are the most famous taleems. Prior permission is required for photography.

  • Temples: The Mahalaxmi temple that draws lakhs of pilgrims every year.

What to eat

  • If you like your food hot and two-legged(/four), we recommend Kolhapuri tambda rassa, pandhara rassa and roasted mutton.


  • Grab a pair of Kolhapuri chappals.
